Motivation: Where To Get Some And How To Better Yourself

Motivation: Where To Get Some And How To Better Yourself

Motivation can be one of the easiest things to lose and the hardest things to find!

Even the people you think are most motivated can feel unmotivated at times. In fact, sometimes even thinking about getting up and making positive changes can seem like too much hard work! Once you are in a downward spiral, it’s sometimes very difficult to pick yourself back up – but there are ways, and they aren’t always as difficult as they first may seem!

So, dear reader, here are some tips on how to brush yourself up and get back motivated.

1. Set a goal… or two

Whether it’s losing weight, becoming a better dancer, getting a promotion, you need to set a goal. It is impossible to get there if there is nowhere to get! Start of small, you can always modify your goal once you are nearing it! Don’t try to achieve too many goals at once, this can make you feel deflated if one of your goals doesn’t work out and put a dampner on the other goals you are reaching. Lastly, don’t be so hard on yourself, it is impossible to feel motivated 24/7, make sure to rest your body and mind.

2. Publish your goal and results

People like to see somebody else doing well, so whether it is on social media or in the comfort of your own home, make your goal known! Put up pictures of where you want to be, post-it notes around the house, memories of where you have come from, and where you want to go! All of this will help in finding that motivation. Also, publish the bad days too – where you were in a slump and how you managed to overcome that. Visual stimulation helps a long way to achieving your goals!

3. Stop comparing

One of the worst things you can do when looking for a little uplift and looking to better yourself is compare yourself to others! We are all different and will achieve things at different times and levels. Celebrate other people’s achievements instead of wishing it was yours. You WILL get there, in YOUR own time. Life isn’t a race!

4. Spread the news

I don’t know about you, dear reader, but I hate failing in front of others. The biggest kick up the butt I can get is when someone says, “I knew you wouldn’t do it”. If you commit to your goal and tell other people all about it, you WILL find the motivation to complete that goal! It doesn’t matter how long it takes, just as long as you get there!

5. Positive changes

If you feel unmotivated, think of all the positive changes you have and will be making. The worst thing to do is have negative thoughts. Swap “I can’t do this” with “I can and I will”. Give yourself a few minutes each evening to go over in your head what positive changes or outcomes you would like from the day ahead, set out to achieving these, but start small and don’t overwork yourself.

6. Never give up!

You will have bad days, weeks, maybe even months, but you can recover from these – providing you don’t throw in the towel. Giving up may seem easy when you are unmotivated and defeated but looking at the bigger picture, where will this get you? By all means, have a rest, if it is all feeling a little too much, give yourself a break, but set a time limit on this and stick to it.

The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential – These are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.
